Project Description::

The Tonkin Zulaikha Greer concept for the Australian Pavilion was developed from the World Expo 2010 theme of Better City, Better Life. The project team created a story for the Australian Pavilion called Southern Skies, Australian Stories. This tells of Australian people in contemporary urban environments and informed the design of three design solutions. The story was based on the idea that the most captivating way to promote Australia in China is through the personality and lifestyle of its inspirational people.

From a distance, the Australian Pavilion is a bold statement in form and pattern. It is sited proudly between its neighbour countries in Oceania, but like the nation itself, is centred between the larger European, American and Asian blocks.

Internally, careful planning and space layout were designed to accommodate a very high expected visitation. From the developed queue experience, an integral and entertaining part of the pavilion visit, through the Southern Skies Performance Area, along the Australian Stories journey to the innovative retail, the visit is orchestrated and exciting. Throughout the pavilion, very advanced techniques of audiovisual presentation build on Australia’s world-leading film skills to tell the predominantly Chinese audience about our ability to create and enjoy Better Cities and Better Lives.
